Dream Comes True for Bird Lover!

WHEN Dave Austin got the chance to fulfil a life-long ambition, he swooped at the chance.

The nature-lover from Weymouth had always wanted to have a go at falconry.

And thanks to his landlord, East Boro, his dream came true.

Staff at the organisation, which specialises in housing and support services for adults with learning disabilities across Dorset, were determined to help out.

They contacted local falconer, George Jenner, who was happy to invite Dave to spend the day with him and his birds of prey.

Dave said: “I really enjoy nature and I love birds and animals. I often paint pictures of birds of prey and have always wanted to see one up close.

“When I told the staff at East Boro they agreed to help and I am so grateful to them and George for making my dream come true.

“I spent time learning all about the birds and then I was able to feed them. I also had a lanner falcon stand on my hand but I had to wear a special glove because of its sharp claws.”

East Boro has an enviable record for providing stimulating and educational experiences and activities for their residents, as senior support worker, Barbara Vallusova explained.

She said: “There are so many wonderful opportunities out there and we do all we can to encourage our clients to experience them.

“From sailing and art to sport and gardening, East Boro strives to support people to do the things they want to do in life.

“For Dave this was a very special event and we are just so pleased that he has been able to fulfil what was a burning ambition.”
